PBR in Pueblo

Lisa Niday - Saturday, May 19, 2012

The Professional Bull Riders (PBR) has returned to its home in Pueblo for tour stop number 19. This is the last stop before the summer break and by the looks of the number of rides last night, I believe the riders are feeling the aches and pains and can use a break to let their bodies heal.

Last nights action at the Colorado State Fair Grounds had 14 riders making it to the 8 seconds. Cody Nance, 2009 Rookie of the Year, led the round when he posted 90.5 in the opening section on the bull, Hee Bee Gee Bee. His high mark stood the entire evening.

Stormy Wing from Dalhart, Texas posted an 88.5 and narrowly ousted PBR championship points leader, Brazilian Valdiron de Oliveira, see the video below, who posted an 88.25 on Shepherd Hills Sodbuster. Valdiron is riding with a fractured eye socket, a testament to this is truly the toughest sport on dirt and the athletes representing the PBR prove it on a consistent basis.

Rounding out the top five were Bonner Bolton (an alternate replacement) and 2010 World Champion, Renato Nunes who scored 85.75 on BigTexTrailers.com.

Fan favorite, Australian Ben Jones rode Ex-Wife for an 83.5, but the score wasn't the important part of the ride for the fans, the dance which follows is a one-of-a-kind celebration, words can't do it justice, (see the video below).

It was exciting to see Ben Jones ride Ex Wife but the crowd loves the "dance".

The PBR offers entertainment for all ages. Adults and children alike are entertained by Flint Rasmussen and this stop offers an affordable opportunity to experience the excitement of bull riding in an intimate setting in Pueblo. Other activities surrounding the weekend include the Wild Wild West Festival in downtown Pueblo which has food, rides and entertainment for a small charge of $2.00 per person.

The second round of the PBR Pueblo Invitational will be tonight, May 19, at the Colorado State Fairgrounds at 7 p.m. and promises to be another night of bull riding excitement for fans.
